I am reading Ready Player One with my book group. I think the book is pretty good so far. I don't read books that often and when I do I take forever because I don't have much time and I would rather be doing other things. So it was a little different reading a kind of long book with a deadline. But the book is really interesting so far. I like that most of the book is actually inside of a video game. The video game that they are in sounds really cool because it's kind of like virtual reality. It's like a whole community but in a video game.
I also feel bad for the kid because he has a hard home life and he is socially awkward. And this video game is where he spends his whole life. He also has no friends except for Aech which he met in the Oasis video game. But in the video game he seems pretty popular.

I went to Arizona over spring break. We stayed at a lodge right at the bottom of a mountain where we went skiing a few times. On the first day my family and I went on a few hikes to get used to the elevation because it's over 7000 feet there and not even 700 in Iowa. So we had to drink lots of water and walk before we went skiing the next day. Our first hike was at a place called Walnut Canyon. It was really cool, it had too many stairs leading down into the canyon and then around an island in the middle. Something really interesting when we went around the island was, The two different ecosystems of the shady side and the sunny side. The shady side had all of this pine and was a very comfortable temperature. The sunny side had lots of cacti, sand, and was much hotter than the shady side. The path was paved and that was really annoying because I had just got a new pair of trail running shoes and pavement wears the tread down.
The next day we went skiing on an actual mountain! I had been skiing many times but only at sundown and never on a real mountain. It is so much better because the runs last a lot longer and the lifts are a lot faster. So you can get a lot more runs in than you could at sundown. Which is one if the only places to ski in Iowa so it's always really busy. On Tuesday we visited an old mining town that was an actual ghost town. It was pretty cool but I wish we could've seen the old mines. After that we went to a place a little farther than that called granite falls. It was lots and lots of granite rocks that you could climb on. The trail was indicated by white dots, so you had to follow the white dots. On Wednesday we drove to the Grandest of Canyons. It was my first time seeing the grand canyon and it was amazing. We took this hike out to a place called Shashone Point. It was a nice look out spot that didn't have very many people. I went up to the edge of it and dangled my feet off and it was straight down. It felt really cool dangling my feet because it actually felt real, like the Grand Canyon felt real and not just there. So then we drove to our hotel to check in and there was a little mistake. Apparently we were supposed to be there on Tuesday. So the rooms that we got we couldn't use and we had to get another room. But we got an awesome room in the best hotel. The only thing is that we lost a ton of money. On Thursday we hiked into the Grand Canyon on a trail called The Bright Angel Trail. We only hiked a mile and a half down and I wanted to go farther. The hike was really cool though. We got to see all kinds of different types of rock. The trail had horse poop all over it because people are lazy and can't walk themselves. On Friday we went skiing again and on Saturday our plane left for Cedar Rapids. 3. My thoughts changed because I knew that this happened but I never really thought about actually living in a concentration camp. Before everything seemed so surreal and I just thought of it like just as a piece of history and never thought about it too deeply.
4. I liked the movie better because it was easier to follow. 2. Ralf (Bruno's father): Ralf was a Nazi war general who was kind of tall and often wore his uniform even around the house sometimes. He had a very straight forward attitude and carried out with everything. He was not that bad of a guy if he hadn't killed so many people. 1. I think they are similar because they both have to do with world war 2, concentration camps, and people dying. They are different because one has to do with the German's side and the other has to do with the Jewish side. 5. What made the Germans stop killing the Jews. Aha moment
Page 93 When Ellie was running to the barracks with the other prisoners he heard a cry under him calling mercy because people were trampling him. He recognized the voice but couldn't quite remember. Then he realized that it was Juliek. Anchor question: It could change things by him and Juliek becoming good friends because Ellie helped him. Words Of The Wiser Page 88 When Ellie fell asleep in the snow and his father told him to get up because if you fall asleep in the snow then you will die. Anchor question: The life lesson is that you shouldn't fall asleep in the snow because then you will fall asleep forever. It affected the character because he saved his life. Contrasts and Contradictions Page 111 When Ellie thought about taking his fathers ration of bread and soup for himself. I never would've thought that Ellie would even consider that. Anchor question: Ellie would act or feel this way because he is very hungry and tired and self preservation is so strong that he would consider taking his father's ration of bread and soup. If I were president I would try and make sure that homeless people get a home. By finding them a job at McDonalds or something. Once they get a job they better be able to at least afford a cheap apartment. Once they get going they can move onto bigger and better things.
My 2nd priority would be climate change. Not enough people care about climate change. It's a serious problem and it's only going to get worse if we don't do anything. I would have people start composting more because 15% of what's in the landfill is food waste. And when food breaks down without oxygen it creates methane gas. Which is very harmful to the environment. My 3rd priority would be to make sure that teachers got payed more. I don't think teachers get paid enough for how important their job is. It's a full time job that requires 4-6 years of education. If it weren't for teachers then who knows where we would be right now. I would do that by making a tax that teachers do not have to pay. Then the money from that tax will go to the schools for the teachers pay check. Right before Christmas I went to Chicago. I was only there for a few days and I came back on Christmas Eve. While we were there we stayed at my step aunt and uncle's house. Their names were Mindy and Adam and they had two daughters named Natelie and Lauren.
While we were in Chicago we visited the Lincoln Park Zoo. There wasn't much for us to see because it was cold. But we did get to see some apes and other primates. We also got to see lots of animals that would live in a rain forest, and a few that would live on a safari. The zoo was fun but we didn't get to see much. When we got back we a great dinner with lots ham and turkey that was very yummy. But I filled myself to just the right amount of food so I wouldn't get stuffed. If I could live in any video game it would probably be smash bros. Because you fight people the whole time and could be lots of different characters with lots of different moves.
I think it would be cool because all of the different characters that I can fight or use have their own thing that makes them the best character if you use them right. So it just depends how you use them, and it makes it so their isn't a best or worst player in the game. In the "8 life skills all 18- year-olds should have," the first one was, how to talk to strangers. Number 2 was finding their way around campus or where ever. 3 was managing assignments or deadlines. Then 4 was contributing to running a house hold. 5 was that they must deal with personal problems. Number 6 was they have to be able to manage ups and downs of their college courses. 7 is that they have to be able to earn and manage money. Finaly 8 is they have to be able to take risks.
I don't think I'm doing too bad on these but I could definetly use some improvement. I'm actually doing pretty good on these because my parents don't just give me money for stuff. I almost always have to use my own allowance. And I'm not bad at talking to strangers. I also manage most of my school work. I am thankful for my family, friends, and my sports teams. I am thankful for my sports teams because when I go to practice, I forget about all the stress with school and stuff, and I just have fun. Those things are what I´m mostly thankful for.
I am also very thankful for whipped cream. It is LITERALLY, the best food ever invented. We don't get it that often, especially the spray kind out of the can. But I just saw some in the fridge that my mom got for the pie and I'm going to have some tonight with mint chocolate chip ice cream. That's why I'm so motivated to get my homework done. And that is what I am thankful for. |
